About Green Initiative of Vojvodina
Green Initiative of Vojvodina (GIV) was established in 1999 and registered in February 2003. GIV traces its roots back to 1991, to the formal network of environmental NGOs and citizens’ associations called the Ecological Movement of Vojvodina. Today, GIV is an informal network of twenty environmental and youth organizations from the territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
The organization's vision is world without pollution. The organization's mission is to promote values of sustainable development, environmental protection and healthy lifestyles.
The main areas of activity are promotion of environmental protection, sustainable development and healthy lifestyles. Green Initiative of Vojvodina launched and implemented a large number of projects in partnership with other organizations such as:
- Environmental Festival Theatre for Children since 1999, with the Eco Center for Children and Youth "Razlicak" (Knapweed) from Backa Palanka (Co-organizer)
- Ecological Traveling Theatre Festival for Children, 2005, in cooperation with Kuklen theater from Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria (Organizer)
- Eco Caravan for high school students Vojvodina, 2004 (Organizer)
- Camp for Rangers - Fruska Gora, Vojvodina, 2004 (Organizer)
- Ecological Camp for young journalists - Vrdnik, Vojvodina 2005 (Organizer)
- Ecological Camp for Journalists - Letenka, Vojvodina, 2006 (Organizer)
- Traditional competition, each year since 2002, for youth from the territory of the former Yugoslav republics, for journalistic and creative expression on topics of environmental protection (Organizer)
- Traditional Environmental work camp - Krivaja, in cooperation with the Ecological Society “Hrast” (Oak) from Krivaja, Backa Topola, every year since 2002 (Organizer)
- GIV organized a series of seminars for high school students from Novi Sad (Electrical engineering school, Sremski Karlovci Gymnasium) Alphabet of Democracy (2000), Tolerance - the wealth of diversity (2001) Man, do not be angry! (2001), How to create a school newspaper (2002), Kompass on Child Rights (2003), in cooperation with the Group 484 from Belgrade
- GIV has been publishing the Ecological Almanac, every year since 2000
- Seminar for Teachers, "Environmental education - education for the future" since 2004, with the Swedish humanitarian organization Individuell Manniskohjalp from Novi Sad (Organizer)
- The "Green Bus" for the first grade pupils in elementary schools in Novi Sad, with the Swedish humanitarian organization Individuell Manniskohjalp from Novi Sad, 2006 (Organizer)
- The campaign "Hi Youth" in 2005, which aims to promote healthy lifestyles among young people, with the Provincial Department of Education and Culture (Organizer)
- Education of first grade pupils in elementary schools in Novi Sad, "Guardians of Nature" since 2004, with the Swedish humanitarian organization Individuell Manniskohjalp from Novi Sad (Organizer)
- Eco Caravan for Journalists Vojvodina 2006, with the Swedish humanitarian organization Individuell Manniskohjalp from Novi Sad (Organizer)
- Green Initiative of Vojvodina in 2006 founded the Association of Journalists "Eco News", which gathers 50 journalists from various media in Serbia
- Organizer of the Ecological Working Weekends - Vrdnik, 2006, when the Codex of environmental NGOs was adopted by thirty ecological associations of citizens from Serbia, under proposal of the Green Initiative of Vojvodina
- Realization of the project workshops for journalists from DKMT (the Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisa) region, and exchange of journalists covering topics related to environment and ecology, in March 2007, Szeged, Hungary
- Green Initiative of Vojvodina is the member of PIPELINE NETWORK, an international network of environmental organizations (Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy) that will supervise the construction of Pan-European oil pipeline (from the Romanian port of Constanta to Trieste in Italy)
- Green Initiative of Vojvodina is one of the 40 environmental NGOs in Serbia, which took part in the Sixth Ministerial Conference "Environment for Europe" (Belgrade, Serbia, October 2007)
- Green Initiative of Vojvodina organized, together with the partner organization, the Swedish humanitarian organization Individuell Manniskohjalp, International Environmental Meeting for journalists, representatives of environmental NGOs and experts in the field of environmental protection, in Vrsac, October 2007
- GIV started the media campaign against the extraction of stones in Fruska Gora National Park, at the Eagle field - the most beautiful viewpoint in Vojvodina
- Green Initiative of Vojvodina started the media campaign against draining of Ledinacko lake since 2002, in cooperation with the Association of citizens "Adrenaline" from Ledinci
- Green Initiative of Vojvodina organized a large number of campaigns for animal protection and environmental protection in cooperation with the Novi Sad Humanitarian Centre
- In cooperation with the NGO "Green Circle" from Backi Petrovac, GIV has published a journal of ecology, “Eco newspaper”
- In January 2008, in cooperation with ZOSEKOZOM and the Student’s Association of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, GIV organized a Round Table "Pan-European oil pipeline: dilemmas, questions and answers"
- In 2008, GIV organized an Eco Camp – Osovlje (Fruska Gora, Vojvodina) in cooperation with the partner organization "Green Circle" from Békéscsaba (Hungary)
- In October 2008 Green Initiative of Vojvodina organized International Conference on "Pan-European oil pipeline: dilemmas, questions and answers" for representatives of NGOs from the countries through which the pipeline passes, journalists and experts in the field of environmental and oil industry, in cooperation with and the Student’s Association of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad
- GIV, in cooperation with the Association of Journalists "Eco-news" in December 2008 organized a seminar "With journalism to the truth" and launched an electronic journal, an environmental magazine – VEM
- In 2008 and 2009 GIV organized a media campaign "Axing Forbidden" with the Green Patrol
- In 2009 and 2010 GIV realized the project "A Monument to Human Negligence" by building a monument from waste collected in Fruska Gora, within the campaign "Clean Serbia”, in cooperation with companies “Fruska Gora National Park”, "City Greenery" Novi Sad, "Serbian Railways", “Lafarge – BFC”
- In April 2009 GIV established the Youth Environmental Club in Backa Palanka with whom realizes the project of building the first environmental commune in Vojvodina
- The project "Poster on Polluters" GIV implements with the partners from the region - Cultural Center of Omisalj, Croatia; Youth Associations "Olive" from Krk, Croatia; Kuklen theater in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria; Euroland in Resita, Romania; "Molika" from Bitola, Macedonia; Eco Green Tuzla Canton Tuzla, Bosnia; Environmental movement in the Bay of Kotor, Herceg Novi, Montenegro; Center for Renewable Energy Sources from Kranj, Slovenia; AAG - ALPE ADRIA GREEN from Jesenice, Slovenia; "Green Circle" from Békéscsaba, Hungary.
In 2008 GIV established the Green Patrol. Green Patrol was established as a mobile group of students of ecology and environmental protection, for the preventive and rapid ecological response. It is working in the animation of the public and raising environmental awareness as well as the mapping of environmental problems. The aim of Green Patrol is to bring together young professionals - students to protect the environment, artists, volunteers and environmental enthusiasts to timely and effectively act in case of the environment pollution.
In 2010 Green Initiative of Vojvodina started filming and producing of "Green Patrol in Action" - documentary TV series and its first episode was broadcast on B92 Info, national television, on September 17, 2010. Since then, a new episode was broadcast each Friday till end of 2010. A new cycle of the series is broadcast in 2011 and 2012 on national TV, B92 Info and a number of local TV stations in Serbia. To be precise, the series is broadcast by two TV stations with the national frequency and even 23 local TV stations throughout Serbia.
